CATUS VERSUS EYMET 18TH SEPTEMBER 2011

The 10 men of Catus and a guest - Sarwan, pitched up at Eymet and were promptly put into the field once UNICEF and Heather Mills had swept it for land-mines, so JP and Big Jake were asked by skipper Sutton to open up .
Almost instantly disaster struck as Jake found a land-mine and had to complete his 3rd over on one leg, before retiring injured to slip, so Harris was asked to take over and managed to produce a spell that was tighter than a scot'smans wallet, finishing with figures of 7 overs,
4 maidens 1 for 9.
At the other end JP bowled 5 swift overs taking the wicket of an opener with an excellent ball before being pulled off by Sutton (the rest of us had a drinks break). He returned at the death to finish his spell with 7 overs 1-40. All-rounder Robson took over from JP and finished 0-37 from 7 before making way for Sarwan whose figures of 1-16 off 3 overs included a wicket produced by a fine catch from Sutton in the covers.
Sutton himself took 1-31 from 7 overs and Jake, limped back to finish with 4 overs, 1 for 21, Eymet closing on 161 for 5 from 35, Sam retiring on 38, Tim Smith out for 28 and bill rhodes making 21.

THE REPLY:
Harris and Mike opened for Catus and only stayed together 3 overs before mike was adjudged l.b.w. for 1, que collapse Catus style, plungeing from 5-1 to 10-4 of 8 overs.
After Mike's dismissal, Skipper Sutton arrived and informed Harris that they needed to "occupy the crease for 15 overs at least" before promptly chasing a wide one to leave for 0. Sarwan duly arrived to inform Harris that he didn't run quick singles- no kidding!- he didn't run ANY singles as he chopped on 1st ball.
Enter JP to whirl away like a demented windmill on amphetimines (at least the breeze he created moved the rain clouds on) until dismissed for not many- 4 down! Cometh the hour cometh Robson who had obviously assessed the dire situation and realised that consolidation, patience and occupation of the crease were needed, then promptly ignored the 1st two requirements (and rode his luck concerning the 3rd now and then) to get stuck into the Eymet attack big style to smash a quick-fire 38 before eventually being bowled, he and Harris putting on over 70 runs together. Harris fell shortly afterwards for 31 caught in the deep.
At this 20 over stage Catus were 80 odd for 6 and it was still potentially game on but the momentum could not be maintained and the reply finished on 127 for 9, Keeble adding a cultured 16 not out. It should be noted that during Eymet's innings, Mal "THE BLUR" Grant attempted a stumping which he hopes to complete before next years olympics, (a sloth on mogodon would have been quicker!) Sometime later when Grant and Keeble were batting, they attempted to run 2, at least Keeble did and duly completed the 2nd run to find Grant( still waiting for his taxi back to his own end at Keeble's end!
An enjoyable game of cricket, pity about the result but many thanks to Eymet for hosting us! Richard Harris
